  Introduction

Varicose veins are dilated and stretched veins. They are a common problem, affecting up to 20% of females and 12% of men. The legs are most commonly affected, but varicose veins may arise in the pelvis in women, producing Pelvic Congestion Syndrome. In males, dilated testicular veins (varicocoele) can affect fertility. However, the effects of varicose veins are most commonly noted in the legs, as the erect posture produces more pressure in the dependent veins.

For many people varicose veins are simply a cosmetic concern. However, for other people, varicose veins can cause aching pain and discomfort. More severe forms can be associated with pigmentation changes and ulceration of the ankles.

At our Vascular Clinic, we are dedicated to the management of varicose veins and preventing the complications associated with this condition. Our methodology is to fashion the treatment to the patient, based on clinical information and the patient's wishes.
