  Signs and symptoms

Often there are either no or minimal symptoms associated with the condition. However, especially with advancing or long-standing varicose veins, the symptoms may include:

  • A heavy feeling in your legs, relieved by elevating the legs
  • Throbbing discomfort, muscle cramps and swelling in your lower legs
  • Prolonged sitting or standing tends to make the symptoms worse.
  • Itching associated with one of veins.
  • Skin ulcers near your ankle, indicating a severe form of the condition and requiring immediate attention.
